It is an unwarranted assumption that when John baptized a man or woman they were made Baptists and those in turn that they baptized were Baptists. If this was the case, then our Lord being baptized of John would have to have been said to have membership in the Baptist church! There is not a passage in all of holy writ which states this as fact. NONE were called “Baptist”, except John!! If there is ONE indication as to what John’s converts were called it is in Matthew 9:14. “Then came to Him the disciples of John, saying, “Why do we and the Pharisees fast oft, but Thy disciples fast not?” By the way, the name Baptist does not glorify Christ. 1 Peter 4:16 states: “If any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed but let him glorify (praise, honor, adorn with luster, impart glory to) God on this behalf (by this name).” Baptism glorifies an ordinance, act or obedience, not the Savior!! Again, if you can find out where the Bible mentions TWO Baptists, I will drop the contention about using the name!!
An act performed upon ones person does not make the person on whom the act has been performed the same in kind of a being as the administrator of the act. Example: a doctors patient does that make the patient a doctor? A man rides a car: does that make the car a man? Methodists sprinkle babies: are babys, sprinklers? If Rich Singleterry, a short order specialists and lawn maintenance owner, baptizes John Wilson, a painter, does John Wilson become a short order specialists and a lawn maintenance owner? Parents spank their children (or used to) did that make the children, parents?
If all John baptized became Baptist because John baptized them, all who Paul baptized became paulinians. It is not strange that those John baptized, did not become Johns, just Baptist!! Also, a Baptist church can nowhere exist where there is not a plurality of members (one of them in our area just closed its doors). There is NOWHERE in the Bible where the mentioning of TWO Baptist exist. There, then, must have been NO Baptist church in the New Testament!! There IS the mentioning of several Churches of Christ in the New Testament: “Salute one another with a holy kiss; the Churches of Christ salute you.” Romans 16:16 “And I was unknown by face unto the Churches of Christ in Judaea.” Galatians 1:21
Did all who were charter members of the Baptist church that were baptized by John in the Jordan River members of the Baptist church? Then, Jesus was a member of the Baptist church: agreed? Of those Jesus had His disciples baptize while John would have been making more members of the Baptist church, what were they? John 4:1 “And Jesus made and baptized more disciples than John. (Though Jesus himself baptize not, but His disciples.) ”What did Jesus call those disciples that His disciples baptize?? It couldn’t have been. Baptist. John had nothing to do with it! It couldn’t have been members of the Church of Christ for she whom Christ shed His life’s blood had not come into existence!
We find the location of the Church of Christ in Jerusalem when it came into existence, can you help me with the location of the Baptist church that would have had to have preexisted the Church of Christ? Can you find me the location of the Roman Catholic Church in AD 33 (which would have had to pre-exist the Church of Christ), if the Roman Catholic church was the first church?
I had a man come to be baptized into Christ that had been turned down by a Baptist church in town for not having a high school education. During investigation I found out that no man is a member of the Baptist Church that the Baptist Church will not accept as a candidate for baptism! Some Baptist church has to sanction their baptism! Wonder who or what sanctioned the baptisms of John and those of Christ disciples? (You can forget the high school diploma, too)!!
John and Jesus disciples baptism was a baptism of preparation. They were to prepare the Jews and the Jews only for the coming kingdom. No Gentile was ever baptized by John or Jesus disciples. Again, find a Gentile, show us his or her name in the New Testament, please don’t make me wait too long!!
